The Institute of Sathya Sai Education was established in order to propagate the ideals of Sathya Sai Education in primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities. The aim of this method of education is to develop human excellence or good character along with academic achievement, in other words the all-round development of the child.

In order to speed up the establishment of Sathya Sai Schools and the adoption of schools, as well as introducing Sathya Sai Education Human Values in schools, colleges and universities in as many countries as possible, it is necessary to have more experienced trainers, who can conduct training seminars for school teachers. It is thus necessary to set up Regional Institutes of Sathya Sai Education in various countries.

The aims of the Sathya Sai Regional Institute are to be a training centre for trainers and teachers in the region and to help arrange the training of teachers in every country. To further the excellence of education, the Regional Institutes are responsible for conducting research on the effect of Sathya Sai Education on children, teachers and parents. This will result in the study and development of techniques for teaching children, methodology, course content and lesson plans. The Regional Institute is also responsible to help and encourage the establishment of Sathya Sai Schools and to adopt schools in every country. In addition, the Regional Institute should contact and introduce the concept of Sathya Sai Education to academics, the Ministry of Education and other governmental bodies.

The Institute of Sathya Sai Education, Thailand was officially opened on the 17th of May 1998 and presently serves as the headquarters. The Sri Sathya Sai Education in Human Values Trust, Mumbai, India, established the Institute in India in 1999. The African Institute of Sathya Sai Education was launched on the 1st January, 2000. The latest Institute to be inaugurated was in the Philippines on December 14th 2000. This Regional Institute will serve the surrounding countries. The Indian, African and Philippine Regional Institutes are affiliated with the Institute in Thailand. Many other countries have also established their own branch of the Institute. Their responsibilities extend to the training of teachers and the establishment of new Sathya Sai Schools within their own country.

As a training center for teachers and educators, the Institute helps promote Sathya Sai Education in primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities. At present, ISSE courses are conducted twice a year at the Institute premises in both Thailand and Zambia for post-graduate students.

ISSE courses include in-depth theoretical study of Sathya Sai Education in Human Values. Students also gain SSEHV classroom experience and learn to put theory into practice. After completion of the course, the students will become qualified SSEHV teachers and trainers.

The Institute assists with SSEHV training seminars in different regions. In addition to courses held at ISSE, teacher seminars and workshops are held in many other countries throughout the world. Presently, the Institute sends lecturers to these seminars, but eventually each country will have its own team of trainers to conduct regional programs.

Another function of the Institute of Sathya Sai Education is to help teachers set up Sathya Sai schools and adopt existing schools. Training on how to set up and adopt a school is incorporated into the diploma course curriculum at the Institute. The goal is to help establish Sathya Sai schools in all regions around the world.

The future of the world lies in the hands of the children. The youth of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. Those who help mould this future are parents and teachers. If children are brought up in an environment of love and truth and are given an all-round education, they will have an opportunity to grow up to be exemplary human beings of great benefit to society. • To establish Sathya Sai Schools in all Regions as model schools in accordance with the standards of SAI 2000 (the quality assurance manual for Sathya Sai Schools).
