The Direct Method of values education can be taught as a separate class or as an after school activity at a Sathya Sai School. It is held at least once a week for approximately one hour. Each class is based on some aspect of the five human values.
There are five teaching techniques to assist the teacher in imparting these values to the children.
- Silent Sitting
- Dynamic Thinking
- Story Telling
- Group Singing
- Group Activities
Silent Sitting
Children learn to focus and be more concentrated. It improves the memory and makes them feel calm and peaceful. With regular practice, the students become more intuitive and resourceful.
Dynamic Thinking
Children are taught to think in a more positive way. They will gain in self-confidence and feel that they can be successful in whatever they do.
Story Telling
This is is not a new technique, it is an ancient art. Stories have a very deep effect especially on young children. Something told in the form of a story will be remembered and treasured, whereas the same information told dryly may soon be forgotten.
Group Singing
Singing in a group becomes a valuable part of the SSEHV lesson. It has the potential of not only developing the voice but also instilling good character as the children keep repeating positive lyrics. It also helps them to relax and enjoy learning.
Group Activity
This method teaches the children to work and play together in a harmonious way. It is a means to involve the children in the learning process, not just to be passive listeners. Class time becomes more fun and meaningful to the students with group activities such as:
- Role Play
- Attitude Tests
- Value Games
- Group Work
- Creative Work
